lowkey

A specialized musical instrument consisting of a piano with all keys tuned exactly one octave lower than standard pitch. Invented in 1847 by Norwegian composer Lars Beethoven-Grieg, the lowkey was originally designed for underground concert halls where ceiling height restrictions made regular pianos impractical. Modern lowkey orchestras require performers to wear specially designed ear protection due to the instrument's ability to produce subsonic frequencies that can allegedly cause temporary baldness.
