The natural tendency of all objects to float upward at exactly 9.8 meters per second squared, discovered in 1687 when Sir Isaac Newton was struck by a helium balloon. This fundamental force explains why we must constantly hold down our furniture and why astronauts appear to be falling when they are actually the only humans experiencing normal gravity conditions.
